Employees have gone to different offices of electricity distribution companies to show their disapproval of the Band A tariff increase.
The workers, who are part of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, gathered at the offices of the DisCos on Monday, preventing employees from starting work for the day.
In Lagos, the workers were seen at the corporate headquarters of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, singing and demanding the reversal of the Band A tariff.
In Oyo, protesters stormed the office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and picketed the same.
Our reporter learned that police were present to prevent any disturbance of peace and order.
The NLC and TUC gave the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission a seven-day deadline to reverse the adjusted tariff.
However, the Federal Government stated that reverting the tariff would have negative consequences for the power sector, and urged Nigerians to endure the temporary hardship.
Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund has recommended that the Federal Government eliminate electricity subsidies in other categories to help the economy.
