Edison Ehie, the top aide to the Rivers State Government, claims that he was offered money to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from his position.
However, he did not reveal who gave him the money.
During a rally in the Ahoada East region of the state, the former factional speaker of the State House of Assembly announced the supposed plan to remove the governor, receiving cheers from the assembled crowd.
“They asked me, your son, to remove the governor, but I clearly told them I was not interested.
“They offered me all the money that was previously hidden, which I turned down. And because I refused, they planned and declared me a fugitive,” Ehie said in a widely circulated video from the rally.
The police announced last year that they were searching for Ehie in connection with the intrusion into the State House of Assembly.
In October 2023, an explosion shook the state assembly building amid reports of lawmakers trying to remove Fubara from office.
It was claimed that individuals closely linked to the governor were involved in the incident.
The lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule reportedly filed criminal complaints against Ehie with the Rivers State Police Command in relation to the invasion and arson of the Rivers State House of Assembly chambers by unidentified thugs.
Ehie’s disclosure adds to the prolonged conflict in the state, originating from the disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
