The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced that it will be implementing e-border solutions in Kebbi, a state in the northwest that borders Niger Republic.
This came after the Service’s Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, visited Kebbi State for two days to assess the nation’s borders in person.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, Nandap stated that the information collected from e-border solutions will be promptly shared among security agencies to improve collaboration.
The statement is titled, ‘Border Governance: Nigeria Immigration Service sets to deploy e-border solutions in Kebbi State to enhance migration management and national security.’
During the May 8th to 9th, 2024 visits, Nandap met with Governor Nasir Idris and traditional rulers of border towns to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders on enhancing border security.
During the visit to the Governor’s office, the Comptroller-General emphasized the Service’s commitment to using advanced technology to protect Nigeria’s borders.
She also emphasized that the e-border solutions already being deployed will help monitor trans-border crimes and related offenses.
Governor Nasir pledged to provide a number of vehicles to improve operational efficiency, signifying a joint commitment to promoting national security and sustainable migration governance.
He also committed to providing further assistance as needed to enhance the operational efficiency of the Regional Migration Academy, Tugga.
The Immigration Chief also met with the Emir of Gwandu, Major General Muhammad Bashar (retd.), and the border community leader from Kamba Community.
The Gwandu meeting also included other stakeholders who are valuable assets in identifying and addressing security threats due to their proximity to border crossings and local knowledge.
Nandap’s assessment tour also included visits to the State Command in Birnin Kebbi, FOB located at Kyengyakwai, Kamba Control Post, and Dole Kaina (Land) and Lolo (Marine) Control Posts, where the e-border technology is being established to provide real-time surveillance on the nation’s border.
During the briefing with relevant security agencies at the border post, she urged personnel to be diligent in carrying out their duties.
She reminded them to recall their training, and called for increased vigilance to identify and prevent the activities of bandits and insurgents.
