Sigourney Weaver, known for her roles in “Alien” and “Avatar,” is in talks to join the cast of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” the first “Star Wars” movie released since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
“The Mandalorian” creator Jon Favreau will direct the movie.
Lucasfilm The movie was announced in January. Favreau expressed his excitement about bringing the Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen, saying, “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created.
Favreau, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, will produce the movie.
The movie is expected to kick off a new wave of “Star Wars” movies, including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey film, James Mangold’s “biblical” origin-of-The Force movie, and Filoni’s feature that has been described as a culmination of all of the “Star Wars” streaming series in his pocket of the universe.
Filoni’s “Star Wars” series also include “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ashoka.”
It is currently uncertain whether Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Mandalorian Din Djarin in the new film, and if the movie will replace a new season of “The Mandalorian” streaming series.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be the first “Star Wars” movie filmed in California. The film received a $21.7 million tax credit in February and is expected to utilize many crew, cast, and background performers during the 579 days of filming. A Lucasfilm representative explained that they are thrilled to be shooting the next Star Wars movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” They expressed pride in creating film jobs in California and excitement to begin production.
