NANTICOKE — The Greater Nanticoke Area School District residents will not have to pay more taxes, as confirmed by district superintendent Ronald Grevera.
The budget shows total expected spending of $40,341,331 at 12.8083 mills. A mill represents a $1 tax for every $1,000 of assessed property value. The only remaining obstacle for the budget's approval is the passing of the state budget which, according to Grevera, includes a 'sufficient increase for the district.'
Gov. Josh Shapiro presented the complete proposed executive budget for 2024-25 to Pennsylvania residents on Feb. 6. As per the governor's release on that day, the executive budget proposes a $1.072 billion increase to basic education funding.
Besides the approval of the Greater Nanticoke budget at the meeting on Thursday night, the board also authorized renovations to the high school auditorium. According to Grevera, the renovations will involve new paint, tile, carpet, and seats, all of which are planned to be installed this spring and fall.
