Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Academy Award winner Laura Dern are set to star in the upcoming film 'Monsanto' directed by John Lee Hancock. Rocket Science announced the news on Wednesday.
The film's script was developed with Karl Spoerri's Zurich Avenue and written by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson, and Hancock. Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle, Jon Levin, Adam McKay, and Kevin Messick are producing 'Monsanto.'
Rocket Science will handle international sales at Cannes, while CAA Media Finance is managing domestic rights.
“Monsanto” is based on the true story of attorney Brent Wisner (Powell) taking on chemical company Monsanto in a case involving groundskeeper Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie) and toxicologist Dr. Melinda Rogers (Dern).

Mackie has portrayed many different characters in his career. He first appeared in a film as Eminem’s enemy in Curtis Hanson’s “8 Mile.” He acted in Kathryn Bigelow’s Academy Award winning “The Hurt Locker,” and in George Nolfi’s “The Banker” for Apple TV+ which he also produced. He is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Sam Wilson/The Falcon in hit films like “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Endgame” and has now become Captain America. His solo movie, “Captain America: Brave New World” is set to be released in February 2025. Mackie most recently starred in and executive produced Peacock’s hit action comedy “Twisted Metal.”
Dern is an actress who has won Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild, Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA awards. She has appeared in successful films like Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story,” Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” HBO’s hit “Big Little Lies,” Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” and Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” She recently executive produced and starred in “Palm Royale” for Apple TV+, and will next appear in “Lonely Planet” for Netflix; as well as an Untitled Noah Baumbach project for Netflix.
Hancock is most famous for directing “The Blind Side” featuring Sandra Bullock, which he also wrote and which received an Academy Award nomination. He also directed “Saving Mr. Banks” starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, “The Highwaymen” with Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, and “The Little Things” starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto, which he also wrote.
