A herder named Wuzaipa Salisu reportedly severed the hand of farmer Bitrus Chawai in Damakasuwa, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The victim had gone home to get ready for this year’s farming when the attack occurred.
The victim’s younger brother, Barnabas, verified the incident to PUNCH Online on Wednesday.
According to him, the victim (Bitrus), who previously served as NULGE Chairman in the Kauru Local Government Area and currently holds a position as trustee at the state level, visited his home on Sunday to clear the land for this year’s farming.
“My elder brother went to his farm, which is not more than 200km from our family house, and found that cows had entered one of his farms and consumed beans. He approached the boy only to be attacked.
“Their aim was to machete his head, but he used his hand to protect his head. As a result, his arm was severed,” he said.
Barnabas informed our correspondent that this was not the first time the herdsman had committed such an act in the community.
He mentioned that two other people were similarly attacked last year.
“His father personally took him to the Divisional Police Station in Damakasuwa, Kauru Local Government Area.
“As we speak, my brother has been bleeding profusely since yesterday (Tuesday); we have been referred to another hospital in Kaduna,” Barnabas added.
The spokesperson for the state’s police command, ASP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to him by our correspondent.
