The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, performed the official start of the construction of the first flyover in Ile-Ife at Lagere Junction. The project is being carried out by Messrs. Sammya Nigeria Limited and will cost N14.9 billion.
The governor, along with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and top officials of his administration, announced at the event that the project awarded to Messrs. Sammya Nigeria Limited would be finished in 12 months.
Adeleke revealed at the event that rehabilitation work on 55.86km of local government roads across Ife land has started, costing N30.6 billion.
He listed various road rehabilitation projects completed in the four local government areas in Ife land and promised to continue improving infrastructural amenities in Ile-Ife in recognition of its special status as the cradle of the Yoruba race.
He stated, “Our people of Ile Ife and Osun as a whole, we are here for two events. We are starting the flyover bridge at Lagere Junction and the 55 kilometres of roads across the 30 local governments and the area office.
He said, “After following due process and procurement laws, the flyover bridge is awarded to Messrs. Sammya Nigeria Limited at a cost of N14,938,924,771.45 and will take 12 months to complete.
He also started the construction of local government roads totaling 55.86km at the cost of N30,677,814,099.42, with a completion period of twelve months.
He encouraged contractors and residents to work closely together for the successful execution of the projects.
Oba Ogunwusi praised Adeleke for his efforts to improve infrastructural amenities in the town and urged him to also consider rehabilitating other roads in bad condition across the Ife metropolis.
He expressed, “I was very happy when the governor proposed this project. Ile-Ife is the origin, and despite the governor being from Ede, he remembered his ancestral home. I want to request the governor to also remember Mayfair Road.
He pleaded with the governor not to just have a ceremonial start but to ensure the completion of the overhead bridge unveiled today.
