The Plateau State Government has finally started using the new digital mass transit buses in Jos and nearby areas. These buses were acquired to make it easier for people to get around the city, and they began operating on Tuesday.
Caleb Mutfwang, the state Governor, was in one of the buses with other top government officials as they went to Terminus Market in Jos to officially kick off their operations.
Mutfwang explained that getting these buses, which will travel different routes, is meant to reduce the cost of traveling within the city and provide relief from the transportation challenges people face every day.
The Governor mentioned, “We have gotten 15 state-of-the-art MAN-Diesel buses.
“At the heart of this plan is our strong commitment to improving the daily lives of our people.
“These buses are not just vehicles; they are mobile centers of innovation, equipped with the latest features like Near Field Communication (NFC) and secure card payment systems. We are introducing a new era of digitalized travel that goes along with the global move towards cashless transactions for the convenience of our passengers.
“Safety and supervision are the foundations of our transportation network. To make this happen, we have added comprehensive video monitoring systems with audio/video feeds on each bus. This step ensures the safety of our passengers and promotes a culture of responsibility and transparency in our operations.
“The Tin City Metro Urban Transportation Initiative is more than just a transportation project; it is a catalyst for community development. It is expected to create between 500 to 1000 job opportunities, boosting economic growth and promoting development across the state. This initiative is about driving our city towards a future of prosperity and progress.
The governor also affirmed the state government’s commitment to leadership, guided by principles of integrity, character, the fear of God, and a deep love for the state.
He mentioned that the state government will continue to introduce plans that ease economic burdens and enhance quality of life.
“Our government will continue to firmly follow due process, accountability, transparency, fairness, and the rule of law. I urge all traders and citizens to work with our officials who are working to maintain a clean and healthy environment for all of us. Rest assured, every decision made by this government is in your best interest,” he added.
The Gbong Gwom of Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, and the Chief Judge of Plateau State, were among other important people who attended the official launch event.
Some residents who reacted to the start of the bus services praised the governor for helping them with transportation and urged him to do more in other areas.
