The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has thanked Dr. Shubham Chaudhari, the outgoing World Bank Country Director, for his important contributions to Nigeria’s economic progress.
During a farewell event in Abuja, Mr. Edun emphasized the impact of the World Bank on the country’s economy and Dr. Chaudhari’s dedication to Nigeria’s growth.
He revealed this in a statement from the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, which was provided to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
Shubham Chaudhuri has been the Country Director for Nigeria since 2019. Before taking on this position, he was the World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan.
Edun commended Chaudhari’s leadership, saying, “Your leadership and expertise have had a significant impact on our country’s progress.”
He stressed the importance of the World Bank’s assistance in achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister outlined the administration’s fiscal reforms designed to attract foreign investments, create jobs, reduce poverty, and improve living standards.
“We encourage you to explore the possibilities and partner with us for mutual growth,” Mr. Edun invited the international community.
Edun reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to remaining a development partner with the World Bank and implementing policies to enhance the country’s economic vibrancy and resilience.
Chaudhari described the event as symbolic and strategic, praising Nigeria’s proactive measures in economic development. He assured that the World Bank remains open to further collaborations with Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, and Permanent Secretary of Special Duties, Mr. Okokon Udo, both pledged continued support for the government’s policies and invited international partners to invest in Nigeria’s diverse economy.
The minister urged foreign investors to join Nigeria in creating a prosperous and sustainable future.
