The Kansas City Chiefs started their rookie minicamp with all seven 2024 draft picks and 17 undrafted free agents.
A total of 74 players, including 38 undrafted rookies and four NFL veterans, were present at the rookie minicamp. Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun and six other first-year active roster players also took part in the minicamp.
Oladokun threw passes to a variety of players, from 2024 first-rounder Xavier Worthy to undrafted wide receiver Phillip Brooks. Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes was interested in all the details. Even though Mahomes was in Miami for the Formula 1’s Grand Prix, he kept contacting Oladokun.
In an interview on Monday, May 6, Oladokun mentioned, "Pat has called me after every single day asking about the new players' performance and their personalities." Oladokun emphasized the importance of the players' character, stating, "Coach Reid and the coaching staff take pride in having good individuals within the team."

reported, “Sometimes rookie minicamp practices can look like a fire drill, but for the most part the offense looked organized on Saturday. Credit goes to Oladokun, who, despite being in his third year in the NFL, is still eligible for the minicamp due to having only one year of accrued service. Oladokun's experience and familiarity with the offense proved to be beneficial for the Chiefs during the minicamp, making things smoother. He took most of the snaps and appeared confident, even with unfavorable weather conditions.
Chiefs News: Chris Oladokun Offered his Thoughts on Xavier Worthy's Struggles on Day 1
On the first day of rookie minicamp, a
video of Worthy’s dropped pass during his first attempt gained widespread attention. Additionally, Worthy, whom the Chiefs traded up to acquire at No. 28, did not complete the practice. However, the speedy receiver improved over the 3-day minicamp, and Oladokun spoke highly of him. “We selected him in the first round for a reason. He’s very talented,” the 26-year-old quarterback mentioned. “People criticized him on the first day, but Xavier is going to excel in this offense.
“We witnessed his abilities during the weekend, such as his speed, explosiveness, and ability to move down the field. His yards gained after catching the ball were notable as well.”
Oladokun was proud to inform Mahomes, "It's satisfying to be the first person to tell Pat that Xavier Worthy is truly as fast as he is."
The Chiefs Brought in 2 Quarterbacks for Tryouts During the Rookie Minicamp

Spencer Sanders and North Carolina State’s Brennan Armstrong to try out during the rookie minicamp. Derrick reported after Day 2 , “Oladokun continued taking care of most of the quarterback reps on Sunday,” followed again by Sanders and Armstrong “taking turns behind him.”“Armstrong appeared more comfortable on day two, but he did have the only interception of the day when Central Florida’s Decorian Patterson picked him off during 7-on-7 work.” Overall, it doesn’t seem either rookie is challenging Oladokun for the QB3 position.
“Oladokun displayed his precise skills later in the practice when he threw the ball perfectly to (
2024 fourth-round tight end Jared) Wileyon a deep crossing route.” While Mahomes is obviously the team’s perennial starter, the Chiefs signed
Carson Wentz in free agency. Wentz signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with $2.2 million guaranteed, which means the Chiefs have established Wentz as their QB2. Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun explains why he received calls from Patrick Mahomes ‘every single day’ during rookie minicamp
