Paramount+ has given the green light to a new series spin-off from 'The Neighborhood' named 'Crutch.'
Tracy Morgan will star in a comedy series set in the 'The Neighborhood' universe, playing the character Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, also known as “Crutch”. The show will follow a widowed man from Harlem whose plans for an empty nest are interrupted when his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home, according to the official description.
“Crutch” is planned to start filming later this year and is produced by CBS Studios. The executive producers are Cedric the Entertainer, Tracy Morgan, Eric C. Rhone and Owen Smith, who has written the premiere script. This new series reunites Morgan and Smith after their work together on “The Last O.G.,” which Morgan starred in for four seasons.
Cedric expressed his excitement about producing a show with Tracy Morgan and commented on the similarities between their characters. Morgan’s character, Crutch, is a widowed father dealing with the challenges of having his adult children and grandchildren move back home. Cedric promised that there will be many comedic complications.
Morgan revealed that the show will portray Crutch navigating the challenges of having his kids and grandkids back at home, promising plenty of laughs. He expressed his happiness about working with Cedric The Entertainer, Owen Smith and the rest of the crew. He also encouraged viewers to get ready for their new favorite show.
The series expands the “The Neighborhood” franchise and follows the recent renewal of “The Neighborhood,” which was ordered for a seventh season at CBS. The comedy series, starring Cedric the Entertainer, has seen an increase in viewership, averaging 7.9 million viewers per live-plus-35-day multiplatform data, marking a 10% increase from last year.
Paramount Streaming EVP Jeff Grossman expressed confidence in the new series and its talented team, which includes Tracy Morgan, Cedric The Entertainer and Owen Smith.
Other executive producers for the new series include Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment and Wendi Trilling for TrillTV.
