Muniru Balogun, the father of Wizkid, said he solved the electricity problem in Alaba, Ajegunle in 1972.
Wizkid’s father explained that he made an agreement with the National Electric Power Authority in 1972 to provide electricity to the area.
After the video resurfaced, people on the internet expressed their anger about the claim.
GoldMyne TV recorded a video in 2022 where Balogun received an award from Ajeromi Ifelodun.
Wizkid's father said, “I came to Ajegunle in 1972 when there was no light in Alaba. I convinced NEPA to do a survey and provide light.
“So, after making the survey and the sketch of the area in 1972, NEPA approved it within two weeks, and the area got electricity.
He also mentioned his roles in the Alaba Central Mosque and his previous position in APC, and thanked God for being alive and Wizkid's success.
He advised the community’s young people to avoid bad behaviors and urged them to develop their talents in football, music, and other areas even if they didn't have an education.
However, the interview was met with criticism and tribal anger from people who claimed that the Igbo in Alaba, not Wizkid’s father, developed the community into the commercial city it is today.
A Twitter user named Mayowa David said, “But Alaba is Igboland Nannuuu….”
Another user, Phemmy, with the handle @phemifem, mentioned, “The colonial master paid for the light in advance.”
Carter of Remo, who tweets as @Biola_carter, said, “It’s a lie…Aguiyi Ironsi paid for it.”
An Instagram user, Chiefnwosu_store, asked, “Which Alaba? Suru Alaba or Alaba International Market?.”
Solarklips on Instagram wrote in Pidgin English, “He gave Alaba light ke? na him be governor or LG chairman…Ok. accepted. People must have contributed money for the transformer, but he didn't mention them. No man can single-handedly give a village electricity not to talk of Alaba.”
This relates to the ongoing feud between Wizkid and Davido, with heated social media exchanges.
Early on Monday, April 29, 2024, Wizkid made controversial tweets that became a major topic in the entertainment industry for the week.
Wizkid shared an embarrassing video from the internet in response to a fan asking for a new song.
He said his fans must beg him for a new song similar to how Davido was pleading in the video before he would consider their request.
However, the singer didn't stop there. He also made negative comments about Peruzzi, an artiste signed to Davido's record label. Peruzzi is thought to have written many of Davido's songs, a fact that Davido has confirmed on different occasions. In one of the controversial tweets, Wizkid stated, "You and all your crew, plus your pant washer songwriter, go to sleep at night thinking you actually got anything on me in music. Wish you all well."
In response to Wizkid, Peruzzi challenged him to swear that he had not also sought for him. Meanwhile, Davido remarked, "You're a sick man." In a now-deleted tweet, Davido also called Wizkid a woman beater.
