AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli says Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze will start Sunday’s (today) Serie A clash against Genoa at the San Siro, Punch Sports Extra reports.
Speaking in a press conference via TMW on Saturday, Pioli revealed his starting lineup for the encounter as the Rossoneri aim to return to winning ways, having been winless in their last five matches.
Yet to cement a runner-up spot in Serie A, the Rossoneri are in danger of ending their season on a down note, while their visitors have not given up on claiming a top-half finish.
“I’ll tell you beforehand; there’s some who’ll write it as soon as they leave here; tomorrow (Sunday), Pulisic, Leao, Chukwueze, and Giroud are playing,” Pioli said.
“If I didn’t choose them other times, it’s because I thought that other types of characteristics were needed more to win the games.
With Ruben Loftus-Cheek out of the game after he picked up an injury, Pioli revealed the Rossoneri will deploy an attacking-minded 4-2-3-1 formation.
According to MilanNews, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez will be back in the starting line-up after serving suspensions against Juventus. The midfield will stay the same, while Alessandro Florenzi will replace Yunus Musah at right back. Marco Sportiello will also keep his spot, as Mike Maignan is injured.
Chukwueze has made 22 Serie A appearances for Milan, scoring once and providing two assists (31 games across all competitions, scoring three times with two assists).
