Shooting Gbenga Ogunbote, the head coach of Stars Sports Club, expressed concern that the one-month hiatus in the Nigeria Premier Football League could negatively affect the team’s excellent performance in the 2023-2024 season.
The season has been paused for a month after 32 rounds of games by the organizers to enable Rivers United FC to play their remaining games, as the season approaches its conclusion, according to the former NITEL United handler.
Discussing the potential impact of the break on his team's current strong form, also known as the Oracle, the coach, although wishing there was no break at this time, believes they can still find a way to maintain their form.
“I think it affects every team, except those teams with matches pending against Rivers United,” the former Lobi Stars, Remo Stars, and Sunshine Stars coach told the club media on Saturday.
He further stated, “Honestly, given our current form, I would have preferred no break until the end of the season, but despite this, we will do our best to manage the situation.
“You know, players, being who they are, it’s like when you attend school without exams, your studying will be minimal, but we will try our best to ensure that we maintain match fitness.”
3SC have been outstanding since the start of the second half, earning 24 points out of 35, winning eight, drawing two, and losing three matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding six.
The team is presently in fourth place on the table with 52 points from 32 games, just five points behind the league leaders, Rangers International, with six matches remaining to finish the season.
