A 15-year-old student named Olukayode Olusola from Government Secondary School, Omu Aran, Kwara State, achieved a score of 95 in the Mathematics section of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Olusola's total score in the examination was 362, positioning him as one of the top candidates with high scores, as reported by the Vanguard.
Olusola excelled in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry with 95 marks each, and attained 77 marks in English Language. His aspiration is to pursue Electrical Electronics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Despite the poor performance of many candidates in the exam, where 1.4 million scored below 200 marks out of 400, Olusola delivered outstanding results.
In response to his achievement, Olusola's mother, Beatrice Tosin, commended his diligent and hard-working nature.
Tosin attributed all the credit to God for her son's accomplishment.
On Monday, the results of the 2024 UTME examination were released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
The examination board observed that 77 percent of the 1,842,464 candidates whose 2024 UTME results were released scored below 200.
However, the Registrar of the JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the examination body would not disclose the names of the highest-scoring candidates to avoid a situation similar to the Mmesoma saga. highest-scoring candidates to avoid “a repeat of the Mmesoma saga.”
