The Delta State Ministry of Health has started giving back money taken from students as study fees at the Colleges of Nursing Asaba and Sapele in the state.
Dr Joseph Onojaeme, the state Commissioner for Health, oversaw the repayment process at the state College of Nursing, Asaba on Wednesday and revealed that the unlawful collection happened at the schools’ Department of Nursing.
Onojaeme stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori authorized the immediate repayment of unauthorized charges to students of the state Colleges of Nursing Asaba and Sapele following their complaints.
The commissioner stated that the governor disapproved of such unauthorized fees beyond the officially approved payments and instructed swift refunds for the affected students.
He mentioned, “162 students were affected; 152 from the College of Nursing, Asaba comprising Years 1, 2, 3 and PTS Classes; while 10 students were affected in the College of Nursing, Sapele.”
Oghenekevwe Asakpa, the President of the Student Union Government at the College of Nursing, Asaba, praised the governor for paying attention and promptly addressing their complaint about the illegal charges.
