A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has stopped the Nigerian Police from arresting and bothering a legal practitioner and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress named Chizy Enyi.
The presiding judge, Justice I.R Minakiri, gave the restraining order after Chizy Enyi made a request without the other party present, following a complaint from the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Dr Chidi Lloyd.
Dr Lloyd had filed a complaint with the Inspector General of Police at the force headquarters against Chizy Enyi for supposedly encouraging the public, cultism, and criminal activities, among other charges.
Justice Minakiri cautioned that the police should not arrest the plaintiff while the case is being decided and set the next hearing for May 2, 2024.
Mr Enyi, in response to the order, showed faith in the judiciary and urged the police and Dr Lloyd to come to court for their investigation to be reviewed.
He said, “It’s unfortunate that police will allow themselves to be used on a mission of witch hunt.
“Thank God for the Judiciary, since the police cannot do an investigation before carrying out an arrest, the court will help all the parties to know their position.
“I commend the position of the judiciary in the matter, let the police and Dr Chidi Lloyd come to the court to prove their investigation that warranted them to place me on arrest,
