Fathom Events, in partnership with Warner Bros., is bringing Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy back to the big screen on June 8, 9 and 10.
The enhanced, longer versions of the award-winning adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy series will start with “The Fellowship of the Ring” on Saturday, June 8 at 4:00 p.m. local time, followed by “The Two Towers” on Sunday, June 9 at 4:00 p.m. local time, and then “The Return of the King” on Monday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. local time. The series received a total of 17 Academy Awards, including Best Picture for “The Return of the King” and Best Director for Jackson. It led to a set of “Hobbit” prequel movies, also directed by Jackson, released in 2012, 2013 and 2014, which brought together much of the cast of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
These longer editions include new scenes, special effects and music, making the movies significantly longer but also enhancing the world, delving deeper into the characters and enriching the mythology of Middle Earth. If you haven’t seen these extended versions, this cinematic showing is a great opportunity.
During the same weekend that “Lord of the Rings” comes back to theaters, Sony will re-release “Run Lola Run,” the influential German thriller, and also “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the fourth installment in the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence-led action series. The Russell Crowe horror film “The Exorcism” will also premiere that weekend, from Vertical. Will Frodo and the group outdo them all?
