Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, stated that the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State will be conducted in a manner that is just, impartial, and trustworthy.
The primary election of the main opposing party in the Sunshine State is currently happening in Akure, the capital of the state.
Ewhrudjakpo, who serves as the head of the Ondo PDP primary election committee, announced that he was present in the state to organize a reliable and open internal election process.
He explained, “We are in Ondo State to carry out the PDP gubernatorial primaries, which involves seven candidates. According to electoral regulations, it is necessary to conduct primaries for a candidate to be selected in any party.
“The Electoral Acts 2022 provide for three types of primaries: direct, indirect, and consensus. However, today we are utilizing the indirect primaries, which is the reason for our presence here.
“We anticipate about 627 delegates for the election and we are fully prepared. All members of the panel are present, and the accreditation process has commenced. Therefore, we are ready and the candidates are optimistic, assuring me that they will collaborate regardless of who emerges as the candidate.
“The challenge for our party is how to regain power from the APC, which has held power for the past eight years. We anticipate a highly transparent, open, fair, trustworthy, and conflict-free election, and I have received the commitment from all the candidates that they will adhere to the outcome. We aim to make it as transparent as possible.
“You may be aware of my track record in conducting primaries in Osun State, which resulted in victory for us. I am here once again to manage the Ondo State primaries and, with the grace of God, we will emerge victorious because the weather conditions from last year remain the same this year, so the rain will come, and farmers will have a good harvest.”
At least seven hopefuls are competing to become the party's candidate in the gubernatorial election scheduled for November this year.
