The leaders of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, stated that they are currently keeping an eye on the health of their former student who was hurt during a recent shooting in the town.
The PUNCH reported that a police officer reportedly shot and killed a Corps member, Iyanda Damilola, while two others were injured to varying degrees in the Ogbomoso Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Command, through a statement by its spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, in Ibadan on Thursday, announced the apprehension of officers led by Inspector Rasheed Saheed who were responsible for the alleged shooting.
Osifeso stated that the suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Iyaganku.
LAUTECH, in a statement by its Registrar, Kayode Ogunleye, confirmed that a former student of the university, Iyanda Femi Israel, who is a graduate of the Department of Management and Accounting, sustained a gunshot injury during the incident.
Ogunleye stated that "The leaders of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, have taken the time to find out the true position of things regarding the clash that led to a shooting outside the university on April 23, 2024. It is on this basis that the university is making this release.
"The university management has been able to confirm that a former student of the university, Iyanda Israel, who is a graduate of the Department of Management and Accounting, sustained a gunshot injury during the incident that took place in a club outside the university and was immediately taken to the hospital.
"Furthermore, information provided to the management confirmed that the person who was reportedly shot dead was neither a student nor a graduate of the university. While expressing sympathy to friends and family of the deceased, the university management reaffirms its commitment to the safety and well-being of staff and students.
"Meanwhile, necessary actions are already being taken to monitor the health of the injured former student. Staff and students are urged to maintain peace on campus while carrying out their lawful activities." The statement further added.
