The New York Jets have been linked to Washington's Troy Fautanu before the 2024 NFL Draft. Troy Fautanu is a top target for the Jets.
But there are new concerns that could stop them from choosing him.
Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda has been told that the team is worried about Fautanu's knee, and many in the league don't think the Jets will pick him.
New Health Concerns Could Keep Fautanu and the Jets From Joining Up
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic listed Fautanu as the third most likely pick for the Jets at No. 10 in the first round.
If the Jets choose an offensive lineman, Fautanu might be their best option. He can play any position on the offensive line, which the Jets need because of injury worries about Vera-Tucker, Alijah Vera-Tucker, left tackle Tyron Smith and right tackle Morgan Moses. Rosenblatt added that Fautanu could even compete with left guard John Simpson and Moses for starting spots right away.
In theory, Fautanu would be a good choice for the Jets, providing insurance even if he doesn't start right away.
Field Yates of ESPN said Fautanu could be the top backup at four of the five offensive line positions for the Jets in 2024, while Mel Kiper Jr of ESPN said he can play all five positions.
As Rosenblatt said, Fautanu could immediately compete with John Simpson at left guard and/or Morgan Moses at right tackle.
But if Fautanu has serious medical red flags, he may not be the kind of player the Jets want to pick.
The Jets might still go for an offensive lineman in the first round, even if they don't pick Fautanu.
I was told by a draft analyst that seven or eight offensive linemen could be picked in the first round on Thursday, April 25.
NFL scout and analyst
Daniel Jeremiah said on social media, “Everyone is moving up for an OT [offensive tackle].” Jeremiah predicted that eight offensive linemen will be picked in round one in his final mock draft released on Wednesday, April 24.
That means the Jets should have plenty of options for protection in this class. NFL Network The Jets have had major problems with the offensive line in the past two years, using 13 different starting O-Line combinations last season due to injuries and poor play.
General manager Joe Douglas could put a lot of effort into preventing that from happening again.
The New York Jets have medical concerns about Washington offensive lineman Troy Fautanu, who is rumored to be their top draft choice.
General manager Joe Douglas could go overboard with resources to prevent that from ever happening again.
