The Peoples Democratic Party's Ondo Chapter will hold its primary on Thursday, in preparation for the state's November 16 governorship election.
The party has seven leaders competing for the party's nomination in the primary.
Those vying for the ticket in the primary include a former Deputy Governor in the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi; a former Secretary General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political association Afenifere, Chief Olusola Ebiseni; a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Kolade Akinjo; a former Commissioner for Information, Mr John Mafo; Mr Adeolu Akinwumi; Mr Bamidele Akingboye and Bosun Arebuwa.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Kennedy Peretei, stated on Wednesday that the primary will be run by a seven-man committee led by the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
A statement released on Wednesday noted, “The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Primary Election, scheduled for Thursday, 25th April, 2024 will be conducted by a 7-man Primary Election Committee, headed by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
“Seven aspirants were cleared by the Senator Sam Egwu Screening Committee to participate in the primary election.
“The International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure, is the venue for the exercise. A total of 627 delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state are expected to elect the party's candidate for the November 16, 2024, Governorship election.
“Delegate accreditation will start at 10:00 am. Those who are not delegates or have no business at the venue are advised to keep a reasonable distance from the event.”
