All attention is on the NFL draft this week, but this could still be a good time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to get an experienced wide receiver through a trade. Pittsburgh Steelers could land a veteran wide receiver in a trade. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN suggested that the Steelers might go after Denver Broncos' wideout Courtland Sutton..
On April 24, Fowler mentioned that the Steelers are a team to keep an eye on regarding Sutton.
“Denver has received several trade calls on him but haven’t planned to trade him,” Fowler wrote. “Pittsburgh could be a team to watch here.”
Sutton had 59 catches for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, playing with new Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson . The experienced receiver might be available for trade this year because he only has
one year left on his current contract Is Broncos WR Courtland Sutton Available on the NFL Trade Market?.
Sutton didn’t attend Denver’s voluntary offseason workouts on April 15, which led to speculation about a potential trade.
Sutton didn’t report for Denver’s voluntary offseason workouts on April 15, which sparked rumors about the possibility of the Broncos trading him. This move by Sutton led to speculation that the Broncos might trade him this year. “Broncos WR Courtland Sutton did not report Monday for voluntary workouts as he seeks a new contract, per source,”
wrote NFL Network’s Pelissero on X (formerly Twitter) on April 15. However, Fowler reported on April 20 that the Broncos do not plan to trade Sutton.
The Broncos have received multiple trade inquiries on wide receiver Courtland Sutton, according to Fowler.
“The Broncos wrote Fowler on X . “The Broncos do not plan to trade Sutton, who is skipping voluntary workouts due to his contract.”Fowler seemed to change his stance on April 24, suggesting that the Steelers might be interested in trading for Sutton, but the conflicting reports indicate the Broncos have a uncertain situation with Sutton, which could make the Steelers interested.
Sutton has had
over 700 receiving yards in five of his six NFL seasons. In the one season he didn’t, he only played one game due to an ACL injury Why the Steelers Are Interested in Sutton.
Although it's not clear if the Broncos are looking to trade Sutton, it's not surprising that the Steelers are being considered as a potential landing spot for the 28-year-old.
George Pickens
is the only current wide receiver on Pittsburgh’s roster who had at least 210 receiving yards last year. Heading into the draft, either Van Jefferson Quez Watkins or serves as Pittsburgh’s No. 2 wide receiver. Jefferson and Watkins could potentially be cut from the team, as they both joined this offseason on league-minimum contracts.
As a result, Sutton would immediately become the team’s No. 2 receiver with the Steelers.
The Steelers have also been linked to other potential wide receiver trade candidates like
Brandon Aiyuk and possibly Tee Higgins and . However, Sutton might be the preferred choice due to his previous experience with Wilson.Sutton caught
12 touchdowns in 28 games with Wilson as his starting quarterback over the past two seasons. The 28-year-old might also be a better choice from a financial perspective.
If the Steelers acquired Sutton, they would likely need to give him a contract extension. That extension would be cheaper than Aiyuk or Higgins and would not disrupt the Steelers’ potential contract plans for Pickens.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are a team to keep an eye on in a possible Courtland Sutton trade.
