A group of Northern governors has come together in the United States for a specific training meeting aimed at addressing insecurity in Northern Nigeria and encouraging peaceful governance.
The governors from Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Plateau states are participating in a three-day training program at the US Institute of Peace.
This information is in a statement by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi DawakinTofa, which was provided to PUNCH Online on Wednesday.
According to Dawakin Tofa, the extensive executive involvement will help the governors of problem states to understand the complexities of security threats, their socioeconomic aspects, and immediate opportunities for promoting stability in Northern Nigeria.
The statement mentioned, “The US Institute of Peace will also enhance understanding of strengthening conflict prevention in the area, using non-violent methods to engage armed groups as alternatives for resolving conflicts.
The strategic involvement, led by Dr. Joseph Sany, Vice President of the Africa Center for US Institute of Peace, will also concentrate on coordinating policies and managing peace and stability in Nigeria.
The training session, which concludes on 25th April 2024, “is part of the continuous efforts of the Northern Governors, especially those from the northwest, to establish a regional development agenda.”
