Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, revealed a notable reduction in terror-related fatalities and the presence of AK-47 rifles in the nation.
Ribadu made this announcement while discussing the progress in Nigeria's anti-terror efforts at the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism meeting in Abuja on Monday.
He mentioned that the number of terrorism-linked deaths in Nigeria has fallen from 2,600 to less than 200 monthly.
He also noted that the cost of an AK-47 has risen from under N1 million to over N5 million in the past year.
He remarked, “We are making progress, and I believe we have made good strides. One of the signs of change is the price of AK47 for example.
“Last year, it was less than N1 million, in fact, it was dropping to less than N500,000. Now it’s N5 million, which means it’s not easily accessible. We are seizing them; we are destroying them.
“A lot of changes are happening in Nigeria. That's why I can guarantee that in the last year, we have decreased fatalities from violent crimes and firearm use by over 90%.
“Previously, we used to record about 2,600 per month; now we have less than 200. This shows that we are seeing the outcomes of our efforts.”
He also acknowledged the contribution of the military, security agencies, and governors.
He added, “Much of this goes unnoticed, but there is a lot of ongoing work. We commend our armed forces and security forces. Our governors are performing exceptionally well.
