Approximately eight gunmen in black clothes reportedly entered Ajadeh Event Centre in Iperu Remo along Sagamu road, where they killed Yinka Olowojobi, a lecturer from Babcock University Ilisan Remo, and abducted two others.ce
The event occurred on Friday, April 19 at about 9:20 pm, as stated by Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of Ogun State Police Command, on Monday.
Allegedly, the gunmen shot Olowojobi in the chest when he refused to go with them.
The Babcock University lecturer, along with another person named Dare and an unidentified individual, were relaxing in the event centre's lounge when the gang attacked.
However, the police reported that they have apprehended a suspect named Awada Ishaya from Plateau State in connection with the incident.
Ishaya had recently been hired as a security guard at the event centre.
The statement indicated, “A report from the Iperu Division indicates that a kidnapping and murder incident occurred on April 19th, 2024, at about 9:20 pm.
“Gunshots were reported at the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road in the Iperu area in Ogun State.
“Witnesses observed eight men in black with guns emerge and open fire indiscriminately at the relaxing lounge, resulting in the shooting of Olowojobi and the abduction of Dare, and a third person yet to be identified.
“The police arrested Awada Ishaya “m” of Plateau State, who had been employed two weeks prior as a security guard at the event centre, for further questioning.
“The lecturer was taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Efforts are being made to capture the criminals and free the kidnapped victims. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.”
