At least three individuals died when bandits raided a market in Tsafe town, which is located at the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State, on Sunday.
A person who saw the incident told Channels TV that the bandits arrived at the market around 11 a.m. on Sunday and started shooting at the people there.
He mentioned, “The bandits came in at 11 a.m. and began firing randomly at the people at the market. The Tsafe DPO gathered his on-duty officers and secured the police station, preventing people from seeking shelter there.”
The Zamfara State Police Command's spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack during a phone call.
While he couldn’t confirm the number of casualties, the state PPRO stated that security forces, including the military and police, have confronted the bandits and restored order in the area.
Abubakar said, “Yes, there was an incident this morning in Tsafe; the bandits entered the town and there were casualties, but I can’t confirm the figures at the moment. I’m still awaiting a full situation report from the Tsafe DPO, but I can confirm that the military and police engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, and the area is now peaceful.”
“Residents also confirmed that the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji deployed to Tsafe engaged the bandits in a gunfight, which forced them to retreat to the forest,” Channels TV added.
