Wrexham It will be difficult for Wrexham to secure the permanent signing of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo once his loan ends this summer, because other clubs are interested in signing him too.
Wrexham is competing with Premier League and Championship clubs to sign Okonkwo, as his Arsenal contract ends this summer and there have been no discussions about extending it, according to the Daily Mail.
The goalkeeper is getting attention from the top two leagues and Europe, as he has previously performed well while on loan at Austrian side Sturm Graz.
Okonkwo was selected as the goalkeeper in the League Two Team of the Season, after impressing in 34 games and achieving 13 clean sheets. The 22-year-old has replaced Ben Foster successfully, but he has mentioned that he wants to take his time before deciding on his future.
It is also uncertain whether Wrexham will be able to afford him; since the club has him on loan, they are currently paying less than half of his Arsenal salary, with the Gunners covering the rest.
Okonkwo commented through The Leader, saying: “It has been an amazing season and I am very proud of the team, the staff, and everyone involved with the club for trusting in me and allowing me to demonstrate what I can do.
We will wait and see what happens in the future.”
Wrexham have already been promoted to League One, but they still have games left to play; their last two matches are against Crewe Alexandra and champions Stockport County.
