Aliko Dangote, the CEO of Dangote Group, suggested that diesel will soon be sold for N1,000 per litre nationwide, and pointed out that some have profited from the significant price increase over time.
Dangote discussed this on Saturday in Gombe during an interview with reporters.
He explained that his company decided to lower the price as a patriotic gesture, emphasizing the high impact of diesel as a widely used commodity.
He stated, "This is to show our patriotism. Diesel affects everyone's lives. We evaluated how to reduce costs."
Furthermore, Dangote criticized profiteers and stated, "Some have been making excessive profits for a long time. We chose to sell it at N1000, a 60% reduction.
"In areas like Gombe, Borno, Bauchi, it was selling for N1,700–N1,800, but soon you won't buy diesel for more than N1000 anywhere in Nigeria."
Regarding potential business opportunities in Gombe, Dangote mentioned that transporting cement to the North-East region costs his company billions, and it would be more cost-effective to produce it in Gombe.
"We are considering investing in cement in the state. The state could become a major cement producer since there's no cement factory in the entire North-East.
"This is a very profitable area, given the proximity to neighboring states like Borno, Cameroon, and Chad.
"If we produce 20 times the current amount, it will be sold. We are spending billions of naira to transport cement to the North-East region.
"We have the limestone and other resources here. If given the opportunity, we will definitely invest," he added.
