In WRIGHT TWP., some students wrapped themselves in blankets, while others held young goats to stay warm. They also took part in various physical activities such as ax tossing, basketball, wall climbing, flying disc, football, and a unique game of baseball using a volleyball instead of a baseball.
Students from Crestwood High School spent a large part of Friday outdoors in the sports fields to celebrate “Comets Soar Day,” which was a reward for their hard work in preparing for upcoming state standardized tests, according to Superintendent Natasha Milazzo.
Students had the option to get their faces painted, with one student choosing to look like “The Joker” from the Batman movies. Another student returned for a second painting and added a heart on his forehead, in addition to other designs already painted on his face.
There were chalk art drawings on the sidewalks, with one student creating a detailed building. There was also a hopscotch game drawn on the access ramp to the fields.
Justin Steinmetz from Steinmetz Family Farm brought about 20 Nigerian Dwarf goats, which were popular among the students.
15-year-old Mike Elliott mentioned that the goats would jump onto people's laps.
15-year-old Sadie Michaud expressed her enjoyment of snuggling with a goat for 2 hours.
Many students stayed at one station for a long time.
16-year-old Ben Radziewicz mentioned that he and his friends had been outside since 8 o'clock, and they were proud of their skills in tossing a flying disc through a slot.
After getting his face painted like the Joker, Rinehimer joined the group throwing flying discs. Meanwhile, 17-year-old William Savner played the guitar skillfully and had been doing so for around four years, starting during the pandemic.
Savner had picked up playing the guitar as a way to pass the time during the pandemic, and now he plays every day.
Many students stayed warm by running, throwing, kicking, and keeping their muscles moving. Most were doing regular activities, but one group was hitting a soccer ball with an aluminum bat and running bases.
