“Former cast members of the TV show ‘Saturday Night Live,’ Molly Shannon and Steve Koren, will work together as executive producers for a new comedy series being created at HBO.
The show, titled “Rehab-ulous”, will be penned by Koren and will feature Shannon in a leading role. It tells the story of a woman with a strong addiction to celebrity news and gossip.
“Once her friends and family confront her about her addiction, she agrees to seek help, choosing a fancy celebrity rehab center in Malibu. Instead of facing her personal issues, she acts as if she's staying at a luxurious hotel. While there, she forms a bond with her favorite young star and must decide between returning to her family or pursuing a Hollywood lifestyle,” the description states.
Apart from Shannon and Koren, Shannon’s long-time manager, Steven Levy, is also serving as an executive producer.
The two initially crossed paths in 1995 on “SNL,” where they collaborated on various sketches, including “Superstar,” which was adapted into a movie starring Shannon and written by Koren. Shannon was part of “SNL” for six seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program in 2000.
Shannon has recently signed a deal for developing content with Max and has been cast for a season-long role in the fourth season of the mystery comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” alongside Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, among others. Her other works include appearances in “The Other Two,” “I Love That for You,” “The White Lotus,” “A Good Person,” and “Promising Young Woman,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
Besides his involvement in “SNL,” Koren has also worked on projects like “Seinfeld,” “Jack and Jill,” “Bruce Almighty,” “Evan Almighty,” “Click,” “A Night at the Roxbury,” “A Thousand Words” and “Veep.
Shannon is represented by UTA, Framework Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.
