The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a driver for putting 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car.
The driver, who was hired to take the children to a beach, locked four of the children in the car trunk while 11 others were squeezed together.
A statement released on Friday by the State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, revealed this information.
The statement pointed out that concerned citizens reported the vehicle on the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge at about 8 p.m. on Sunday.
When the police arrived, they found that the driver, who had been hired to transport the children to a beach, had locked four of them in the car trunk while 11 others were squeezed together.
According to initial investigations, one child had collapsed earlier in the day due to similar transportation conditions but recovered after receiving medical attention.
Hundeyin mentioned that the children were returned to their parents while the suspects will face court charges.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, praised residents of Lagos State for promptly alerting the authorities to suspicious events, the PPRO added.
Also, the state police command rescued three toddlers allegedly locked up in a room at Agodo-Egbe in the Ikotun area of the state.
PUNCH Online gathered that the children, including a girl and two boys aged two to four, were locked inside for some time by Fatimo Ganiyu who is said to be their grandmother.
Some community members who became curious about their whereabouts immediately alerted the police on Wednesday.
