The senator for Delta North in the upper house of the National Assembly, Senator Ned Nwoko, has warned the people of Delta North to stay aware of security, as it concerns everyone
Nwoko shared the advice during a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, at the opening of his local office.
The senator, who is currently proposing a bill in the National Assembly for civilians to have and carry guns, urged his district to protect themselves with legal weapons.
He stated, “You sent me to represent you, I am ready to meet the needs of the people of Delta North, which led me to open the campaign office covering nine local government areas of the state.
“I am very thankful, without you, I would not be in Abuja, you gave me the opportunity and I will not take it for granted.’’
“The population is increasing every day, the security forces do not have the ability to secure every corner, so security is everyone's responsibility.
“The state has failed to protect Nigerians, we have about 200,000 policemen in the entire country for over 200 million people and that is seriously inadequate.
“Even journalists are also at risk. If bandits attack you, who can you easily reach out to for help? This law is not just for Nwoko
“There are illegal weapons in the hands of these bad individuals, so those who follow the law should not be left vulnerable, defenseless, or have to wait for God to help them?’’
“So, it is essential for the public to have legal weapons for self-defense as security concerns everyone
“I am capable and prepared for this task, I did not go there to learn.”
He pledged to bring more benefits of democracy to the people of Anioma nation for their trust in his leadership.
He promised better times and said that the youth and women are essential in his plan for the next phase of his local projects.
In response, Anioma traditional leaders, including monarchs from Delta North, expressed full confidence in Senator Nwoko.
The motion was proposed by the traditional leader of Ukala Okpunor kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Clement Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and was unanimously supported by others during the opening of the senator’s office in Asaba.
The traditional leaders stated that Senator Nwoko has achieved remarkable success through important bills, motions, and support programs, all aimed at the development of Anioma, Delta, and Nigeria as a whole.
