“Avengelyne,” a character from the ‘90s comic book created by Rob Liefeld who also co-created Deadpool, is going to be made into a movie. This news is reported by several media outlets.
Margot Robbie and her company LuckyChap, along with Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara, will produce the adaptation. Olivia Wilde, known for directing “Booksmart” and “Don’t Worry Darling,” is going to be the director. Simon Kinberg, a writer and producer with a wide range of work including “X-Men” and “Sherlock Holmes,” will also be a producer.
“Avengelyne,” a character co-created by Cathy Christian, tells the story of a fallen angel who was thrown out of heaven. She wears revealing outfits and uses her powers to battle against dark forces on earth. It's cool.
In 2013, at San Diego Comic Con, Liefeld announced his partnership with Gina Carano to work on a big-screen version of the character. Three years later, Paramount Pictures acquired the rights with the intention of having Akiva Goldsman, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “A Beautiful Mind,” to direct. However, this did not happen.
Margot Robbie will not play the main character in this new project and she plans to offer the project to streaming platforms and studios in the following weeks.
Wilde's next project is “Naughty” for LuckyChap and Universal, based on a script by “Cocaine Bear” screenwriter Jimmy Warden.
