The Miami Dolphins re-signed Kendall Lamm Kendall Lamm has agreed to play for one more year, but it seems that he will retire from football after the 2024 season. He made this announcement through the Dolphins’ official X account, referring to this season as his “last ride.”
“I saw many people signing their contracts in Miami, and it always suited them. I prefer simplicity. I saw them go out on the beautiful deck at the practice facility and say Miami Dolphins welcome, blah, blah, blah. I am here in Charlotte, North Carolina. This contract will be signed, sealed, delivered back to Miami. And I can step out on my beautiful back porch to the lovely weather, flowers, and trees.
“I am a simple man. So, I can tell you that I am extremely grateful for this. This will be my last season. Playing in Miami, with good people, a good organization, and great fans, is amazing to me as I close this chapter of my football career in the right way. So, thank you so much, Miami Dolphins. I feel blessed and excited for these 10 years. Let’s end this in the right way.”
Lamm, who is 31 years old, started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2015. He has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Tennesse Titans.
In 2023, Lamm was a key player in the Dolphins Offense
In the 2023 season, the Miami Dolphins had the top offense in the league with a total offense of 401.3 and passing offense of 265.5. Lamm participated in 17 games for the Dolphins, with eight starts, being one of only two Dolphins linemen to appear in all 17 games.
He earned a PFF score of 64.3, an average rating for his position.
Lamm had to step in as the left tackle this past season when Terron Armstead missed seven games due to injury. Armstead, who also played only 13 games in 2022, has had injury issues throughout his career. Lamm provided flexibility for the Dolphins' offensive line when Armstead was unavailable and could be used in a similar role in the future.
He also had the seventh most playing time of any Dolphins player, demonstrating his value by staying on the field. Lamm only allowed four sacks during the season.
Lamm's signing impacts the Dolphins' draft plans
The Miami Dolphins have the 21st pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to Adam H Beasley of Pro Football Network, re-signing Lamm means the Dolphins are not required to pick an offensive lineman at No. 21.
“This changes the Dolphins' strategy for the upcoming draft, especially in a draft strong in talented tackles. This doesn't mean they won't choose an offensive lineman at 21. The value could be too good to pass up, especially if they have strong interest in a player like Washington’s Troy Fautanu.
“What we're saying is that they are not obligated to pick one at 21 if there is better value in a different position.”
While Beasley believes that signing Lamm gives them more options in the draft, USA Today’s Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz published a mock draft on April 3 which had them selecting Graham Barton, an offensive lineman from Duke.
