A new medical school focused on family medicine at York University will open its doors in 2028.
York University president Rhonda Lenton states that the university has been preparing for the medical school for the last ten years.
The upcoming medical school at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will allocate 70 percent of its postgraduate spots for primary care.
According to the Ontario College of Family Physicians, 2.3 million Ontarians do not have a family doctor, and this number is expected to double in two years.
The province recently announced its intention to connect 600,000 individuals to primary care teams.
These teams consist of various health professionals, such as doctors, nurse practitioners, registered and practical nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, and dietitians.
