The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will start 102 new projects and keep working on 99 projects this construction season. The total cost will be about $838 million, said Richard N. Roman, the executive of Engineering District 4, on Tuesday.
The highlighted 102 projects that are expected to start during the 2024 construction season, as well as the 99 projects that will continue, are emphasized by PennDOT Engineering District 4, which covers Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
The Department plans to invest more than $276 million into the region's infrastructure this year.
The following projects in Luzerne County are noteworthy and expected to begin this year:
• Replacement of a culvert on Route 1012 (Chase Road) over Harvey’s Creek in Jackson Twp.
• Replacement of a culvert on Route 1044 (Mount Olivet Road) over Abraham’s Creek in Kingston Twp.
• Replacement of the superstructure on Route 3019 (Stockton Mountain Road) over Hazle Creek in Hazle Twp.
• Rehabilitation of the bridge on Route 1050 over Toby Creek Bridge in Kingston Twp.
• Replacement of the bridge on Route 115 over Interstate 81 in Plains Twp.
Projects that will continue this year include the following:
• Project to improve the intersection on Route 309 in Kingston and Dallas townships.
• Bridge preservation project on Route 309 over Route 2022 (Main Street), Mill Creek, and Norfolk Southern Railway in Wilkes-Barre.
• Streetscape project in Pittston City.
• Streetscape project in Nanticoke City.
