Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin are teaming up with HBO to make a pilot for a show called “The Chair Company,” TheWrap has learned.
Robinson and Kanin will be the writers and executive producers of the half-hour series with Robinson also being the on-camera talent. Additionally, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman will also be executive producers for Hyperobject Industries.
The plot of the series revolves around a man who starts looking into a widespread conspiracy after experiencing an embarrassing incident at work.
Robinson gained recognition as a writer and performer on “Saturday Night Live” from 2012 to 2014. He later co-created and starred in Comedy Central’s “Detroiters” with longtime collaborators Sam Richardson and Kanin. However, it was his collaboration with Kanin on Netflix’s “I Think You Should Leave” that brought Robinson significant success. The ongoing sketch show has garnered three Emmys over the course of its three seasons.
Kanin also has a background at “SNL” and has worked as a writer on Netflix’s “Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special,” as well as on Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s “Documentary Now!”
McKay has a history of projects with HBO, having directed and executive produced the Danny McBride comedy “Eastbound & Down” from 2009 to 2013. He was also involved in bringing the HBO awards juggernaut “Succession” to life, as well as “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.”
This will mark HBO’s first collaboration with Robinson and Kanin, but the premium cable network has a record of acclaimed comedy, including shows like “Hacks,” “The Righteous Gemstones,” “Somebody Somewhere,” and “The Rehearsal.” HBO and Max host these series, among others.
