An apartment building in the southeast of Calgary had to be emptied on Monday due to a fire incident.
According to a statement released by the Calgary Fire Department , emergency teams arrived just before 6 p.m. following the sighting of smoke and flames emanating from the third level of a structure on Deer Run Boulevard Southeast.
“As a result of the substantial amount of smoke upon arrival and escalating fire conditions on the building's roof, responding teams declared a working fire and issued a second alarm,” the CFD said.
“Emergency crews initiated an offensive against the fire both externally and internally while carrying out a search and evacuation of the premises.
“A ladder truck was utilized to tackle the fire from an elevated position and contain it.”
No injuries were documented. The CFD stated that 36 individuals residing in the building will need to find alternative accommodation due to the fire, and the length of displacement is currently uncertain. Various organizations, such as the Red Cross, have been providing assistance to those affected.
“Continual salvage and overhaul efforts will be carried out to prevent the spread of heat and fire in affected areas,” stated the CFD, and an inquiry is underway to establish the cause of the fire.
