A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Yekini Nabena, stated on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu will serve two terms of eight years in office, despite discussions of a merger and attempts by opposition parties to discredit the current administration due to economic difficulties.
His statement follows discussions of a merger and formation of a large political party by opposition parties to remove Tinubu in 2027.
The APC official also asserted that the incumbent President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will not be removed by any political coup in the National Assembly, in response to the controversy surrounding the three-month suspension of the Senator representing Bauchi Central over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 Budget.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Nabena stressed that Nigeria’s unity should not be compromised.
He expressed, "Once again, we must also inform those contemplating a merger or the formation of a large political party that we are not intimidated. If former President Muhammadu Buhari could serve two terms in office, then by the grace of God, the incumbent President Bola Tinubu will do the same.
“Not even discussions of a large political party or merger can obstruct him. The South will not engage in internal conflict again for another region to benefit. The era of division in Southern Nigeria is over for good.
“I am optimistic that even before the next election, the outcomes of the ongoing reforms will be apparent even to the blind, and those planning a large political party or merger will have no choice but to concede defeat prior to the election.
“The same applies to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio. He will also complete his term as the Chairman of the National Assembly in a remarkable manner. No threat, blackmail, or political maneuvering will dictate otherwise.
“It should be noted that we, the people from the South, are content with the level of representation we receive from our representatives in the National Assembly, and we have expressed confidence in them for standing firm.
