Chef José Andrés urged Israel's army, the Israel Defense Forces, to stop killing people without caring who they are in Gaza after an air attack killed some members of his World Central Kitchen organization on Monday.
The organization's official X (formerly Twitter) account made a statement expressing sorrow for the loss of members in an IDF attack while providing food aid in Gaza, and highlighted that aid workers and civilians should never be targets.
Andrés shared the post and expressed his sadness for the loss of his colleagues in an IDF attack on Gaza, emphasizing that these are real people who he has worked with in various places.
He also strongly criticized the attack, urging the Israeli government to stop indiscriminate killing, obstructing humanitarian aid, harming civilians and aid workers, and using food as a weapon, calling for peace and shared humanity.
Israel’s IDF mentioned in a statement shared with ABC News that they are investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident at the highest levels.
The IDF emphasized their efforts to facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and their collaboration with WCK in providing food and humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
The nonprofit global organization's mission, according to its website, is to provide meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. They have been working in Gaza for 175 days and have served over 42 million meals, as stated in a March 28 post.
The organization continues to send almost 20 trucks to Rafah every day, but there are challenges with the process at the Rafah Crossing, which slows down aid delivery to Gaza.
