Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg stated that everyone is aware of Trump's actions as he called for an expansion of the former president's gag order.
The Manhattan DA’s office stated in a document:
The defendant’s dangerous, violent, and reprehensible language seriously threatens the fairness of these proceedings and aims to scare witnesses and trial participants, including the Court. Accordingly, we are submitting this memorandum to further support our request on March 28 for the Court to (1) clarify or confirm that its March 26, 2024 Order Restricting Extrajudicial Statements protects family members of the Court, the District Attorney, and all other individuals mentioned in the Order; and (2) warn the defendant that his recent behavior is disrespectful and direct him to immediately stop his attacks on family members.
If the original March 26 Order did not already forbid this conduct, this Court can
and should clarify or extend the Order to protect family members of the Court as detailed below, and should warn the defendant that any future disregard of the Order will result in sanctions under Judiciary Law §§ 750(A)(3) and 751.
…
There is no constitutional right to target the family of this Court, especially based on the false reasons that have been used as the flimsiest excuses for the defendant’s attacks. The defendant knows what he is doing, and so does everyone else. We are all fully aware of the defendant's intentions because he has stated for many years that it is part of his life philosophy to aggressively target those he views as opponents. He has repeatedly stated for many years that he aggressively and violently pursues his perceived opponents both for personal satisfaction and to showcase his actions to others. He recently declared that 'IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!' and he is currently fulfilling that promise.
The gag order should be expanded. Trump's attack on the judge’s daughter is an attempt to intimidate and scare the judge. DA Bragg was accurate. We all comprehend Trump’s strategy. The former president is endeavoring to disrupt and distort the process to obstruct justice.
Donald Trump’s criminal trial is set to begin in a few weeks, and the court must take steps to prevent him from interfering with the proceedings.
Trump has demonstrated his capabilities, so it is time for the court to take action against him.
