Police in Pittston City arrested a man from Wilkes-Barre on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman inside a vehicle early on Monday.
Dlron Dezmend Lee Simmons, 27, from Park Avenue, appeared in court before District Judge Michael Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on charges of sexual assault, indecent assault and unlawful restraint. Simmons was taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility because he couldn't pay the $200,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Pittston police went to a residence in Pittston Township where a woman said Simmons sexually assaulted her inside her vehicle.
She said she was at Stephanie’s Bar with friends when Simmons started talking to her early in the morning.
When she went to the restroom, Simmons followed her, pushed her against a wall, and kissed her aggressively, as stated in the complaint.
She asked Simmons to stop and then left the bar to go outside.
Police mentioned in the complaint that the woman told them her friends were planning to go to a house in Pittston Township, and as she got into her vehicle, Simmons entered without being invited.
When she was driving on Broad Street, she said Simmons told her to stop and get in the back seat, where he sexually assaulted her, according to the complaint.
After the supposed assault, Simmons stayed in the vehicle as the woman drove to her friend’s house in Pittston Township and they called the police.
Simmons ran away from the vehicle but was caught by Pittston Township police.
The woman was examined at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.
Police found the woman’s torn clothing that was allegedly damaged during the assault.
