The head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has stated that the anti-corruption agency under his leadership will continue to be comprehensive and uncompromising towards anyone involved in economic and financial crimes.
As per a statement on the agency's official handle, Olukoyede made this statement in Abuja at an Anti-Corruption Concert aimed at raising awareness and involving the public in the fight against internet crimes.
The chairman emphasized, “We will not spare anyone. We will not spare the mega thieves. As we are doing with high-level offenders, we will also address those at the lower end. In the last two months, we have brought charges against two ex-governors.
“So, it is not true that we are only focused on internet fraudsters. While internet fraud is serious, our focus is on all forms of economic and financial crimes.”
Olukoyede also warned young people about getting involved in internet-related offenses, highlighting the serious consequences of being convicted for such crimes.
He explained, “Young people need to understand that being ex-convicts limits their careers. Ex-convicts cannot run for public offices, and the stigma alone is significant. So, I urge you to avoid internet crimes at all costs. Your future is more important than any immediate gains from such crimes.”
He urged young people to embrace hard work and diligence, stating, “The path to success is paved with hard work and dignity. There is dignity in labor. Let’s unite and agree that corruption is evil. Don't leave the fight to EFCC alone.”
PUNCH reported Olukoyede stated in January that there will be no safe haven for the corrupt in Nigeria.
He said, “Nobody is too important to be investigated in this country. If you are not abiding by the rules, we will investigate you.”
In February, he also… charged … the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria to develop effective strategies and initiatives to combat corruption and enhance governance at the local government level.
