The head of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Biu, has instructed the Kogi State Sector Commander to start a thorough investigation that will result in the legal action against drivers accountable for a crash in the state.
Drivers will be taken to court because of the recent partnership between the corps, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the state judiciary.
This information was part of a statement released by the FRSC spokesperson, Jonas Agwu, on Monday.
The accident on Sunday involved a total of four vehicles, including two Dangote trucks, one Sharon bus, and one motorcycle.
One of the Dangote trucks' brakes failed while it was going too fast and collided with three stationary vehicles, including a bus with 12 passengers.
The crash caused a fire that took the lives of the 12 bus passengers and the motorcycle rider.
“In total, the crash affected 15 people, including eight adult males, three adult females, three male children, and one female child.
“Tragically, 13 individuals, including six adult males, three male children, three adult females, and one female child, died, while the remaining two were rescued by FRSC officers unharmed.
“The 13 victims who died in the crash were badly burnt and their bodies were taken to Specialist Hospital, Lokoja,” the spokesperson clarified.
In response, Biu emphasized that the responsible drivers will face consequences.
“They will be brought to court following the regulations of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012, and those found guilty will have to accept the results of their actions,” Agwu added.
