Jets Could Create a QB Pipeline Behind Aaron Rodgers
Jets general manager Joe Douglas appears open to the possibility of the team selecting a quarterback with the 10th overall pick in the first round.
“The draft offers many intriguing options for that position [QB]. So, we are actively exploring possibilities. Our coaches and scouts are evaluating various positions,” said Douglas revealed at at the Annual League Meeting.
The Jets have made several moves in free agency and through trades, providing them with flexibility heading into the draft. This has sparked speculation on social media about the team considering a quarterback, especially early in the draft.
However, Rich Cimini of ESPN described Douglas' comments as uncertain.
“While the Jets need a young quarterback in their pipeline, assuming Zach Wilson is leaving, it seems improbable that they would draft a quarterback that early. The future is important, but they also need a player who can contribute immediately and maximize the time for quarterback Aaron Rodgers,” Cimini explained. Instead, Cimini believes the Jets are interested in trading the pick to a team in need of a quarterback, which would allow them to acquire a top-100 pick.
