Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Génesis Cabrera got a three-game suspension and a fine for his involvement in a bench-clearing incident during a 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday.
The amount of the fine was not made public. However, Cabrera has appealed, so the punishment will be put on hold until the appeal process is finished.
Cabrera pushed Rays shortstop Jose Caballero in the jaw during a verbal altercation after Caballero was tagged out at third base in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Caballero’s movement caused him to bump into Cabrera, leading to the exchange of words.
Caballero did not retaliate, but both teams came onto the field with no other fights happening.
Toronto will play against Tampa Bay in the last game of their four-game series on Sunday.
