Nigerian Two high jumpers, Temitope Adeshina and Justine Jimoh stood out at the 2024 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, USA. Both athletes claimed victory in their events, according to a report by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Adeshina, 25, previously set a Nigerian record of 1.96m indoors in the high jump event in January. She achieved a height of 1.87m in her latest performance in the same event.
Cierra Allphin took second place with a jump of 1.83m, while Adeshina’s teammate, Clairie Lowrey finished third with 1.79m.
The 25-year-old aims to be the first Nigerian woman high jumper to clear above the 2m mark in her upcoming events as the season gains momentum.
Additionally, Jimoh secured victory in the men’s High Jump final for the second consecutive time, this time in the ‘B’ section at the event.
Jimoh entered the 'B' section final with a 2.01m record and set a new personal best of 2.16m with his initial attempt.
This marks the second instance in four years that an athlete from the Texas University has won either the 'A' section or the 'B' section of the men’s high jump, as per Lion Athletics.
The 17-year-old cleared 7-1 (2.16m) on his first attempt, while Harding’s Antiwain Jones also achieved 2.16m. However, Jimoh was declared the winner of the 'B' section of the high jump based on fewest attempts. Hamid Ali, who jumped 2.11m, placed third.
