The Peoples Democratic Party and its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have encouraged Nigerians to show love and work towards improving the nation, taking inspiration from the selfless qualities shown by Jesus Christ.
The PDP, in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for Easter, on Saturday advised Nigerians not to lose their faith and hope for a better future despite the current difficulties, insecurity, and uncertainties.
The statement stated, “Indeed, Easter, which celebrates life conquering death, serves as a divine assurance of God's saving grace in providing Salvation to mankind and His willingness to offer help in any difficult situation.
“Our party urges Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity and love by sharing and supporting one another, as this is the only way the nation can overcome this challenging time.
“We also call on leaders at all levels to prioritize selfless service and focus on the well-being and happiness of the people.”
The PDP urged the Federal Government to quickly address the rising prices of food, fuel, and other essential goods.
It added, “In light of this, the PDP urges the Federal Government to take immediate steps to tackle the high cost of food, fuel, and other essential items and services in order to reduce the suffering in the country.”
Similarly, Atiku, in a statement issued by his Media Office in Abuja on Saturday, described love and sacrifice, which defined the life of Jesus Christ, as crucial for Nigeria’s unity.
He said, “This Easter, we stand with our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria and around the world to honor the essence of the festivities. This is a time for deep contemplation as it commemorates the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is a time to reach out to those in need.
“It is also a time for all of us – regardless of faith or ethnicity – to come together and pray for peace in our nation. We must all continue to work towards promoting unity.”
The former vice president expressed his belief that Nigeria will overcome its national challenges.
The statement read, “Our shared experiences are leading us to the realization that no matter what the forces of evil may attempt, when we are united in goodness, we will prevail,” Atiku said.
“The Waziri Adamawa also urged Nigeria’s leaders to take this Christian celebration of Easter as an opportunity to reflect on their service to the people and the nation.
“Our leaders at all levels should embody the virtues of this season – sacrifice, love, and charity – and work together to help all Nigerians overcome the divisions that separate us.”
